Effective July 1, 2015, drivers in Tennessee who do not have proper insurance face a fine of $300, up from the previous $100 fine. Following January 1, 2016, officers of the law are legally allowed to have your vehicle towed immediately if you are not able to provide proof of insurance. Prior to January 1, 2017, Tennessee will be creating an online insurance verification program. Once implemented, the program will find uninsured drivers by accessing vehicle registration records. Vehicle owners without insurance will not be able to renew their vehicle's registration.
